On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the new office of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Maraji Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram, marking the launch of the party's campaign for the upcoming local body elections this year and the assembly elections next year.
During the inauguration, Shah hoisted the party flag, planted a sapling in front of the building, cut the ribbon to enter the premises, and performed a traditional lighting of the lamp to celebrate the official opening of the new office.
Having arrived in Kerala late Friday night, the Home Minister also paid tribute to the late K.G. Marar, the former president of the BJP's Kerala unit, by laying flowers at his bronze statue, which has been placed in the central hall of the new building.
Accompanying Shah during his visit were Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the president of the BJP's Kerala unit, along with other senior leaders. He was briefed about the various facilities available at the new office.
In the afternoon, Shah is scheduled to participate in a leadership meeting of the state unit, where preparations for the local body elections in Kerala will be discussed. According to the party's released schedule, he is expected to depart from Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur by 4 PM.
Before returning to Delhi, Shah plans to visit the renowned Rajarajeshwara Temple in Taliparamba for prayers.
